The artists behind TC Trash Art are Rebecca Fatzinger and Cristina Maldonado. These artists collaboratively work together to build art out of discarded materials that they find along their local beach.

Appalled by the way the beach was being treated, they decided to turn the found trash into art as a way of education. The ultimate goal was to inspire others to clean up the beaches too by turning rubbish into something useful.
They make you look at garbage in a completely different way- using scraps, creating curious and fun characters, helping people to interact with garbage in a new way and giving them a whole different perspective.
Interestingly, 85% of the art they make is photographed as soon as they are made and then instantly thrown away or recycled, so most of their work can only be viewed via social media.
The idea that you can make quick spontaneous works of art out of what is available at the time is really interesting to us and we may consider this in our S is for Survival workshop buy asking the children to use leaves, twigs or plastic to make mini shelters that adapt to the climate they are in. The fluidity of finding loose and discarded objects will help us create a multitude of survival huts.
